Renee Ly
My name is Renee Ly and I am a registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. My approach to therapy is collaborative, safe, compassionate, and inclusive, to create a space for you to share your experiences, and explore your values and relationships. I strive to help you build the resources you need to meaningfully connect with yourself, others and your environment.
I practice from an LGBTQ+ supportive, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive framework to help adults and youths with a diverse range of experiences and backgrounds. I work with individuals of all ages struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, bereavement, relationship issues, eating disorders, unwanted and repetitive behaviours, sexual identity, gender identity, and anger. I attune my approach to your unique lifestyle and work with you to discover underlying emotional injuries that may exist.
My work is rooted in the belief that it is foundational to focus on the mind and body connection to facilitate effective and lasting changes. Therefore, I incorporate sensorimotor psychotherapy in our work, which includes mindfulness, awareness of the body, and awareness of how non-verbal expressions affect day-to-day experiences in our work. Here, my goal is to help you use your body as a source of information that guides you in creating resources you can turn to in moments of challenging experiences.
I approach individual therapy with a humanistic and experiential framework through the Emotion Focused Therapy model. Where appropriate and comfortable for you, I use attachment theory to learn about how your early childhood experiences influence the way you interact with yourself and the world around you. I focus on helping you explore, process, and transform deeper emotions that emerge from your experiences. Through this work, we will identify your needs and values that will maintain a path of healing and personal growth.
I also work with couples using the Gottman Method Couples Therapy approach. I mainly work with young couples and pre-marriage or pre-cohabitation counselling to strengthen relationship skills and help couples appreciate and foster their partners’ values.
I believe that in a respectful, safe and non-judgemental environment, everyone can find their own internal strength and resiliency, which can empower them to overcome life’s challenges. I view therapy as a process and journey and I am passionate about supporting you in your journey as you make sustainable changes that create meaning in your life.
I look forward to working with you.
